REGULATIONS 27-31. V. 2010 6th annual ASTERFEST organized by TFA International Film Festival Strumica 27-31 May 2010 Macedonia INTERNATIONAL OFFICIAL PROGRAMME REGULATION REQUIREMENTS This festival of new millennium is aimed at promoting and presenting cultural knowledge and trends recorded through contemporary film & video technologies made by professional authors from Southeastern Europe and outside. Screenings will be held on places of the City of Strumica, ancient capital of Macedonia. The festival has a tendencies to exchange an audiovisual ideas and messages between World/panEuropean/Macedonian filmmakers and festival public. The deadline for submitting films to selection is 15th March 2010. Beside the filled entry form, we need preview prints (DVD), one copy of the complete dialogue and synopsis texts (both in English), one or two photo-s and other materials about film and author(s). SELECTION In selecting films, organizers will concentrate equally on both artistic merit and actually expressing content. The Organizer will accept to the selection applications for films on digital technique, and in the PAL systems. The condition for a film's admission to selection will be the presentation of an accurately completed film entry form, and the documentation listed in entry form. Entry forms and their enclosures, as also the videocassettes or discs with the submitted films would be sent to the address from entry form. We shall confirm when receiving it. In the event of any applicant's failure to meet the deadline, or of inaccuracies in any application form, the Organizer will be free of all obligations whatsoever to enter such a film for the selection. Applicants should submit a videocassette for selection at their own cost. DVD-s shall be returned only to senders who pay a charge for return post. Works praising racism or pornography are not accepted. THE COMPETITION (DOCUMENTARY) ASTERDOCS PROGRAMME Documentary films with not limited projection time may be submitted for this selection. Films made after 1st January 2008, may participate in the Competition without consideration if the film has participated at other international competition or festivals. Author (director) must be born in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Turkey, Serbia, Kosovo and other states or citizen of some of them. The Festival Director and the Selection Committee will decide as to the admission of any film to the Competition projections. Applicants will be given notice of their film's admission or rejection by e-mail or by post by 30 days before the Festival start. The following screening formats are accepted to the competition: BETA SP cassettes, miniDV cassettes, DVD-s, or in exceptional cases 35mm (for short movies). We prefer high quality DVD copy. The applicants whose films have been selected to the competition should immediately send their films to the Festival address but not later than by 30 April 2010. English sub-titles are recommended on the copies for preview. SPECIAL PROGRAMMES GLOBAL FICTION The best new fiction features and shorts by authors from all world regions. Parallel: programme for domestic (here living) authors or authors who are born in Macedonia but they are living in World. MOVIELAND Every year, various countries are showing their national film heritage by professional filmmakers. This year, we will collect shorts&docues from one country. HOMAGES Films dedicated to authors or themes. AsterClassics Promoting masterpieces of movies in public domain, made by European authors or inspired by Europe or being of capital importance for SEE culture and pop-culture. Other programmes: BANNED WITHOUT CENSORSHIP, ONE WOMAN-ONE FILM, MERRY-DIONS, ANIMAGE. For these categories there are no limited length, but we prefer short and middle-length duration. The list of films accepted to the competition run and to the special programs will be also published on the Festival web-site and on the other propaganda materials. DISPATCH AND RETURN OF FILM TAPES & DVD-s Costs of transportation for videocassettes submitted for selection as well as for the competition copies and all transportation costs whatsoever, shall be borne by the applicant. Applicants will be liable for all customs clearance costs outside Macedonian customs territory and shall be bound to abide by customs rules. All screening prints (tapes) will be returned at the Organizer’s cost within 2 weeks of the closing date of the Festival. Notice should be given to the Festival organizers about change of return address but not later than one week before the Festival start. PRIZES FOR ASTERDOCS AND OTHER PRIZES The International Festival Jury will award the Grand Prix – GOLDEN Horseshoe, SILVER and BRONZE Horseshoe for an Author of creative doc, one Special Prize gOLDen Projector and BEST WORLD SHORT FICTION FILM. The special jury will award as the Merit Mention for an Author in category Movieland. The Festival board awards ASTER Honorary Award, for continual (lifetime) achievement in European/World filmmaking and in the field of author’s film art. There are some Gratitudes and Recommendations, Publics choice etc. PROJECTIONS Films in the Competition may be additionally shown no more than two times during the Festival activities. Any other screenings require special permission of the producer or author. For the purposes of promotion, the Organizer may give television stations and internet database access to any special promotion films made by any film's producer or author, on the conditions defined in the Film Entry Form or in annex. FINAL REMARKS The submission of a film for participation in the AsterFest will be taken to mean acceptance of the conditions of these rules. Decision in all matters not covered by this Regulations shall be taken by the Organizers represented by the official Festival Artistic Direction but in accordance with additional AsterFest rules.
